The New Medicine Service (NMS) is a free NHS service. It offers support to patients with long-term health conditions who have just been prescribed medication in order to aid in improving medication adherence. The initial focus of NMS was on certain patient categories and medical conditions. Sign up for our New Medicine Service in Cheltenham.
This service’s goal is to increase patient treatment compliance, which will then decrease medicine waste. Additionally, detecting adverse medication reactions early on in the course of treatment can decrease hospital admissions due to these reactions. You will receive lifestyle advice from one of our pharmacists during your appointments to help in the management of your condition.
You may be qualified for the NMS service if you begin a new medication for antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy, asthma/COPD, hypertension, or diabetes. You will be offered this service by a member of our staff, who will also request your written consent before proceeding.
During the initial consultation, one of our pharmacists will provide you with some general information about your new prescription and the service. They will also make arrangements with you for a phone or in-person follow-up session in two weeks. The pharmacists will inquire about your experience with your medication during your follow-up appointment. They will also look into any problems you may have had, and offer any necessary guidance and support.
In one to two weeks, the pharmacist will schedule a follow-up appointment. This is to make sure you understand your new medication and there are no side effects.
Speak with one of our pharmacists the next time you start a new medication to see if you qualify for the New Medicine Service. Always feel free to contact us.
